Ethiopia is East Africa's clean-power exporter: the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam alone now generates 5,150 MW, and electricity flows to Kenya, Sudan and Djibouti. With about 45 GW of economically feasible hydropower potential and 6.6 GW under construction, the country is opening generation to IPPs — creating room for equipment suppliers and O&M partners.

The scale market — GERD, Koysha (1,800 MW) and the planned Blue Nile cascade of Karadobi, Mandaya and Beko Abo — is complemented by a quieter one: rural electrification through mini-grids and solar-hydro hybrids under Mission 300-backed programmes.
For suppliers, Ethiopia values proven, bankable equipment and long-term service. Turbine units with digital governors, excitation and SCADA — plus spare-parts machining to drawings — match how EEP and IPPs are structuring new plants and maintaining the existing fleet.
